Fueled by the burgeoning artificial intelligence sector, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has once again demonstrated its dominance, achieving record-breaking financial results. According to recent reports available across internet sources, the chip manufacturing giant announced a remarkable 39.1% surge in third-quarter profit, significantly exceeding initial projections.
This exceptional performance, underscored by unwavering demand for AI chips globally, resulted in a net income of NT$452.3 billion, surpassing the anticipated NT$417.69 billion. Furthermore, revenue witnessed a substantial climb, reaching NT$989.92 billion, comfortably exceeding the estimated NT$977.46 billion. This impressive figure represents a 30.3% increase compared to the same period last year and a 13.6% jump from the previous quarter, marking the second consecutive quarter of escalating profits.
TSMC's CEO, CC Wei, highlighted the persistent strength of market dynamics, emphasizing how the ongoing integration of AI models by consumers is fueling an increasing demand for enhanced computing power and, consequently, greater semiconductor output. Major technological innovators such as Nvidia and Apple have consistently relied on TSMC's cutting-edge processors to power their AI-driven products.
Further solidifying its optimistic outlook, TSMC elevated its revenue forecast for 2025 to a mid-30% range, a noteworthy adjustment from the 30% projection released in July. The company's high-performance computing segment, encompassing both AI and 5G applications, accounted for a substantial 57% of total sales during the July-September quarter.
The report also revealed that advanced chips, manufactured with a 7-nanometer or smaller process, contributed a considerable 74% of the total wafer revenue. These state-of-the-art nodes, crucial for contemporary AI infrastructure, continue to drive TSMC's financial success.
As stated by William Li of Counterpoint Research, "TSMC's impressive earnings are a direct reflection of the robust adoption of 3nm technology, alongside high utilization rates at the 4/5nm nodes – both being fueled by persistent orders from AI GPU, high-performance computing clients, and top-tier smartphone manufacturers."
Multiple outlets report that TSMC's manufacturing facilities are critical to the production of chips powering the largest machine learning systems and the latest generation of smartphones. Despite prevailing supply chain obstacles, TSMC has successfully maintained consistent utilization rates across its operations.
